Motor Caravanner Magazine – Article 10

Our latest article is out in the August / September issue of the NZMCA Motorcaravanner Magazine.

We have traveled for over a year now, meeting new people and immersing ourselves into new communities. We have seen some stunning places and enjoyed some incredible hospitality but we have also seen some real challenges and environmental issues along the way.

In this article we talk about some of the people we have met on our journey who are trying to live sustainably and by “leave it better than you find it” in order to make a difference to those challenges and issues.

As we discussed in our previous article conscious consumers hold the power to make a positive impact in the world by spending (or not spending) money on companies that align to sustainable values. “Every time you spend money, you are voting for the kind of world you want.” Anna Lappe.

But what of the conscious consumption of time? In this article we highlight a few of the many examples we have encountered of people spending their time in a positive manner to make a difference in the world.

Reduce, reuse, recycle are typical words associated with good waste management and sustainability. However we have found in our hundreds of conversations so far on the road that there is an almost inexhaustible list of these “re-“ words we can use to guide us in making good choices in our daily lives. Words such as respect, repair, restore, renew, refuse, relocalise, regenerate, reciprocity, restore and rethink are bringing new depth to our discussions and helping uncover new opportunities to make a difference and “Leave it better than we find it”.

In this article we look at a few of these “re-“ words and how they have guided our own actions and those of others we have met.

Our latest article is out in the October / November issue of the NZMCA Motorcaravanner Magazine. In this issue we share our experience of using biodiesel and driving the electric car. These two important sustainability objectives have significantly added to our adventures in the first six months while also helping to reduce our carbon emissions.

We also recount some of the mechanical challenges we have had on the trip so far and how they have also become part of our wonderful adventure.

As this article comes out we find ourselves completing a two week trip around the East Coast and East Cape with an extra child onboard for the school holidays.

Our latest article is out in the August / September edition of the NZMCA Motorcaravanner Magazine. Nikki recounts some tales from our time in the Marlborough Sounds and the amazing people we continue to meet.

Ironically this article has been published at a time we are back in the Marlborough Sounds for birthday celebrations and more quality time with our new friends in this amazing location. For a second time and true to form The Loop bus has decided it does not want to leave and has broken down in the Manders driveway.
